Southern California's reputation as a mild-climate paradise is largely true — which means painting conditions are excellent for most of the year. Low humidity, predictable rain patterns, and warm temperatures create an ideal curing environment for exterior coatings. But mild climate does not mean easy on paint.
SoCal's UV intensity is among the highest in the continental US, particularly in south-facing coastal orientations where direct sun is constant. UV breaks down paint films faster than any other variable — it is why cheap exterior paint fades and chalks within 2 to 3 years here when a quality product would last 10. We specify UV-stable formulations with 100% acrylic chemistry for all SoCal exterior work.
The coastal zone — roughly the first mile or two from the Pacific — adds salt aerosol deposition to the UV challenge. Salt attacks paint films, causes peeling at the substrate interface, and accelerates corrosion on any metal substrate. We use moisture-resistant and salt-tolerant products for all coastal SoCal work.
